Scheduled change
The text Advisor serves is the law in operation today. Three kinds of change are scheduled ahead of it, and each has its own tool, so two tools never give different answers about the same title.
| Change | What it is | Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Uncommenced amendment | A law has been made that amends a title from a future date | uncommenced_amendments, then get_uncommenced_text for its text |
| Sunsetting | A legislative instrument will be repealed automatically, generally ten years after registration | sunset_radar |
| Disallowance | Parliament may disallow a legislative instrument within a set period after it is tabled | get_disallowance_risks |
Keep scheduled change apart from current law
- Uncommenced text is not in force. It is an instruction in the amending law, and the current text of the amended title does not include it until it commences and the Federal Register publishes a new compilation. Never merge the two.
- The amending law and the amendment have different statuses. The amending law is usually in force already; its items have not commenced.
- Deadlines are the Federal Register's. A disallowance expiry date is shown as the Federal Register publishes it, not computed by Advisor.
- At its sunset date a title's text is withheld until the Federal Register confirms it continues in force.
