Hansard
Advisor holds the Hansard of both chambers of the Commonwealth Parliament since 2000, searchable and readable in full. It comes with conditions of use that your service must keep.
Note: Hansard passages come with conditions of use, and your service must keep them.
- Verbatim. Reproduce a passage unaltered. Analysis around a quotation is fine; rewriting the quotation is not.
- Attributed. Attribute each passage to "Parliamentary Debates (Hansard), Parliament of Australia" and show the reader the
official_recordlink.- Not fetched. Show the
official_recordlink, do not fetch it: aph.gov.au refuses automated requests.- Not the official record. Advisor is a search over the record, not the record. Label your service the same way.
- Not for satire, ridicule or political advertising, or to misrepresent any Senator or Member.
What is held
Speeches from the House of Representatives and the Senate, 2000 to 2026, with speaker, chamber, date, debate and page where known. A speaker's portfolio is recorded as it stood on the speech date.
The attribution
Attribute every passage to "Parliamentary Debates (Hansard), Parliament of Australia". Every Hansard response carries the attribution and the official_record link for you to show.
The official record link
official_record is a link to the speech on aph.gov.au, for a person to open. Do not fetch it: aph.gov.au refuses automated requests, so a fetch returns a block page, not the speech. Use page_no, where given, to find the passage on the official page.
Proof and official versions
A sitting day is sometimes first captured from the proof Hansard. It is replaced by the official version once that is published.
What this means for your code
- Quote passages exactly as returned.
- Show the attribution and the
official_recordlink with every passage. - Label your service as not being the official record.
